Cookie Club Reviews

Beth Dickman - Las Vegas
The Last Cookie Club is an empowering memoir that tears at the heart-strings and challenges every food addict to take another look at the real cause of weight gain. As someone who is consistently embroiled in a weight-loss battle, I found The Last Cookie Club to be sad and happy, motivating and utterly close to the truth for me and my group of confidants going through similar situations. The book is a tear-jerker, but for all the best reasons: tears for the situation, tears for the struggle and tears for a remarkable outcome.

I originally purchased The Last Cookie Club as a gift for my sister who has battled food issues for much of her life. I began reading the first chapter out of curiosity and immediately realized this book is truly something special. Although it is aimed at people with compulsive eating issues, the valuable insights apply to all kinds of addictive behavior. It's not very often I've read a book that changed my life -- the Last Cookie Club is definitely one of them. I've already bought three more copies to give to people I love.

Addiction. Unless you’ve been there, it’s almost impossible to comprehend. In 'The Last Cookie Club,' Gary Mahoney takes us into a world of food addiction. Through the eyes of the club members, each seeking to reach their 'last cookie moment,' we learn how compulsive eating rules their lives and the lives of those around them. Larry Brennan is the organizer and sensei of the group of six men and women. But even as their leader, he continues to battle the all-encompassing need to eat in order to compensate for the fears he can’t seem to acknowledge in his life. “I know all the techniques and theories,” Larry tells the group. “I know all the right things to say and do—but the truth is, I‘m barely hanging on by my fingernails here and I don’t know what to do about it.” Reading “The Last Cookie Club” is like trying to take notes on a roller coaster. You know there are insights into everyday living, whether as an addict or not, that should be highlighted or written down, but all you want to do is find out what is going to happen next to Larry and his group. Read the book first. Then go back and write down your notes. It’s well worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Last Cookie Club. Although I can't say that I have an addictive personality, this book helped me to look inwardly at the reasons behind my impulses to eat foods that I should probably stay away from.

As a thin person, I didn't think this book would interest me. Boy, was I wrong. It's extremely well-written, inspiring, enlightening and entertaining. It left me with, dare I say it, much food for thought.

The Last Cookie Club is an inspirational novel. It is heart felt and a tear jerker. It gives hope to people who struggle with the battle of weight loss. I, myself have experienced this battle, and after reading The Last Cookie Club I feel encouraged to change my lifestyle and habits for the better. I highly recommend this book to family and friends.
