Three Elements of Abstinence

Today I would like to jot down a few lines about what abstinence means to me. There are three aspects:

Physical:  Refraining  from eating foods that are not healthy for me. Refraining from eating past the point of being satiated, even if I am eating healthy foods.

Emotional:  Being balanced emotionally. Accepting situations in my life with calmness and equanimity. Not going off the deep end and making a mountain out of a mole hill when situations do not go as I planned (followed by compulsive eating).

Spiritual Balance: Being in touch each day with God's will for me and not forcing my will on situations. Asking the simple question, "What would God have me do in any given event?"

Focusing on these three aspects of abstinence keeps me in a peaceful state of mind whereby I can enjoy my life one day at a time.

May we all be peaceful.
